Practice: Leave Your Ego at the Gate
Chapter 2

Practice: Leave Your Ego at the Gate

Two practices for the barn, two for the office or home. Write one line after each: what improved today was.

20 minPracticeBarn and office

The same work in two rooms. If you have no horse, watch horses at a fence or at a lesson; seeing is practice too. Do the office practices this week, with real people, at low volume.

Barn: Hat in hand
HowStand still beside a quiet horse for one full minute before you ask anything. Notice the first small try.
You've got it whenYou released on a try you would have missed before.
Office: Build a gate
HowBlock five minutes before your three hardest meetings this week. Stand, breathe, and decide what getting it right looks like.
You've got it whenThree gates kept, and one decision you got right instead of looked right.
Office: Find the new path
HowAsk one trusted colleague: where is the team routing around me?
You've got it whenYou heard an honest answer and changed one thing.
Office: Say it in the room
HowThe next time you are wrong in a meeting, say so in the meeting.
You've got it whenYou said I was wrong without a but.
Safety
Equine activities are inherently dangerous. This course does not replace hands-on instruction from a qualified professional. You work with horses at your own risk.
