Horse rescue and rehabilitation
An intake standard and care protocol for every horse that arrives, with rehabilitation at the horse’s own pace.
About the rescue work
A new 501(c)(3) nonprofit for horses that need a second chance, for military veterans and for young people. Its programs are based at Ocean View Stables and will be taught from Leyden Horsemanship.
The nonprofit’s work
Saved by the Saddle is new, and each program has its own page on the nonprofit’s website. The programs for veterans and young people are ground-based: no riding, and no experience with horses needed.

About the rescue workA ground-based program for military veterans of all eras, at each person’s own pace.
About the veteran programsA program where young people will learn to handle a horse from the ground and take responsibility for an animal that depends on them.

The connection
Every Saved by the Saddle program will be taught from Leyden Horsemanship, which is what we teach at Ocean View Stables.
Leyden Horsemanship is Western horsemanship in the vaquero tradition. Its pillars are feel, timing and balance, and its language is pressure and release.
The nonprofit’s sessions will happen on the ground: leading a horse, grooming it and standing with it at the tie rail.
Two organizations
Saved by the Saddle is a 501(c)(3) public charity and a separate legal entity from Ocean View Stables LLC, the privately owned business that trades as Ocean View Stables and Leyden Horsemanship. It operates at Ocean View Stables under a written facilities agreement.
As Saved by the Saddle states on its own website, donations to it fund its charitable programs only, and they are not used to improve or maintain privately owned property.
The free ride for veterans at Ocean View Stables is a practice of the barn, not a program of the nonprofit.
