Part 2: Who Can Ride, and How the Day Goes

Who can ride

  • Riders must be 8 years old or older. A child under 8 cannot ride double with a parent; the minimum age is the minimum.
  • A parent or guardian signs the Participant Agreement for any rider under 18.
  • For the safety of our horses, the rider weight limit is 250 lbs maximum.
  • Tell us each rider's height, weight and riding experience on the rider form in your booking emails, or at check-in, so we can match every person to the right horse.
  • Every participant signs the participant agreement before any hands-on time with the horses. If you have not signed yours yet, the link is in your booking emails.

How the day goes

  • Plan for 75 to 90 minutes, including check-in and a safety orientation.
  • Arrive 20 minutes before your start time to check in, get fitted for a helmet and finish your paperwork.
  • Find us at 2152 Olympic Way, Daly City CA 94015, phone (415) 969-1223. Parking is on site.
  • Bring a bottle of water, and wear sunscreen: fog is not shade.
  • Your guide gives a short ground lesson before you mount.
  • The ride goes at a relaxed walk and no riding experience is needed. Your guide decides when the group is ready to head out along the coastal trail, and the ride reaches the sand when the tide allows, so beach access is not guaranteed on any given ride.
  • Your guide stays with you the entire ride. Follow their cues, and speak up any time you feel unsure.

Next up: Part 3, how to be good company for your horse.

The rider rules that keep people and horses safe, and exactly what happens from check-in to the end of the ride.
