Welcome to OVS Kids Camp!

A Week Packed with Adventure and Learning

Our week-long journey, running from Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM, is meticulously planned to ensure that each day brings new excitement and learning opportunities.


Kids’ Camp Itinerary

Delve deeper into the world of horses with advanced lessons on horse handling, and saddle up for interactive games like "Red-light Green-light" and “Follow the Leader,” designed to hone riding skills in a playful, collaborative setting.

TUESDAY:

  • 9:00am: Arrival: ◦ Learn how to get your horse to "hook onto you" so that you can catch him/her. (Helps to create strong bond between horse and child)
  • 9:45am: Snack time
  • 10:00am: Groom and saddle your horse
  • 11:00am: Lunch break!
  • 11:45am: Split into two groups
  • Group one: Lesson!
    • Time to saddle up your lesson horse and prepare for a lesson.
    • Demonstrate how to properly mount your horse using the mounting block.
    • Review how to maneuver the horse with your body, hands and legs.
    • Review how to ask a horse to stop and go.
    • Play a game of "Red-light Green-light" (To show that you can control your horse's speed)
    • Play a game of “Follow the Leader” To demonstrate your ability to steer and direct your horse.
    • Demonstrate how to properly dismount and tie your horse up.
      Group two:
    • Learn the different parts of a saddle and their function.
    • Switch and repeat with opposite group
      2:15pm: Unsaddle, grain and groom horses.
      2:45pm: Enjoy a snack while you wait or volunteer to help with the horses until your parents arrive.


  • 9am: Arrive, catch, groom, and saddle your horses
  • 9:30am: Demonstrate your knowledge on horse anatomy and parts of the saddle
  • 10:30am: Learn how to recognize and identify horse emotions and body language
  • 11:45am: Lunch break!
  • 12:30pm: lesson!
    • Mount your horse
    • Warm up and practice different exercises at the walk.
    • Play a game of "Red-light Green-light" (To show that you can control your horse's speed and transition from walk to trot)
    • Do another obstacle course at a trot.
    • Learn different exercises to control the parts of your horse
    • Advanced riders will have the opportunity to lope if ready
    • Practice barrel racing, pole bending, keyhole, jumping, trail obstacles and other fun activities to show off your new skills to your parents on Thursday!
  • 2:15pm: Unsaddle, grain and groom horse
  • 3:00pm: Enjoy a snack while you wait or volunteer to help with the horses until your parents arrive.

The excitement builds with advanced riding techniques, a serene trail ride, and an insightful session on horse emotions and body language, enriching your child's understanding and empathy towards these magnificent creatures.

THURSDAY:

  • 9:00am: Arrive, Review horse Anatomy.
  • 9:30am: Demonstrate your understanding of horse anatomy and your ability to identify the different parts of a horse.
  • 10:00am: Catch your horse. Groom and saddle your horse.
  • 10:30am: Snack time!
  • 11:00am: Split into two groups:
    • Group one: Lesson!
    • Mount your horse.
    • Warm up and practice different exercises at the walk.
    • Practice trotting and controlling the parts of your horse.
    • Practice transitions from walk, trot, to stop.
    • Learn different exercises to control the parts of your horse.
    • Practice the barrel racing pattern.
    • Dismount and tie horses up
  • Group two: Trail Ride!
    • Mount your horse.
    • Head out on a trail ride!
    • Practice moving your horse around natural obstacles such as trees and downed logs.
    • Play "pass the stick" team building exercise.
    • Take turns leading the string of horses.
    • Arrive at the stables and tie horses up.
  • 12:15pm: Lunch
  • 1:00pm: Switch groups and repeat
  • 2:15pm: Learn about horse emotions and how to read a horse’s body language.
  • 2:45pm: Enjoy a snack while you wait or volunteer to help with the horses until your parents arrive.


Culminate the week with a demonstration of newly acquired skills. Your child will showcase their equestrian talents in the "Ocean View Stables Kids Camp Olympics Show," a celebratory event where families are invited to witness the remarkable journey their children have embarked on.

FRIDAY:

  • 9:00am: Review horse emotions and body language.
  • 9:30am: Demonstrate your ability to read a horse’s body language and explain horse emotions.
  • 10:00am: Catch your horse, grain, groom and saddle your horse.
  • 10:30am: Snack
  • 10:45am: Split into two groups:
  • Group one: Lesson!
    • Mount your horse.
    • Warm up at a walk and practice the exercises you have learned to control the horse's body.
    • Practice transitions from walk, to trot and back.
    • Practice your Barrel racing!! (At whatever speed you are comfortable)
    • Practice for your "Ocean View Stables Kids Camp Olympics Show" that will be put on for the parents.
    • Practice barrel racing, pole bending, and other fun activities to show off your new skills to your parents!
  • Group two: Review: Parts of the saddle, horse anatomy, and horse emotions. Practice for your presentation.
  • 12:15pm: Lunch Break!
  • 1:00: Switch groups and repeat
  • 2:30pm: Ocean View Stables Kid's Camp Olympics Show!
  • Choose your favorite events and go show off your new cowgirl/ cowboy skills to your family!
  • 3:30pm: Introduce your horses to your family and say farewell to your horse ( or until next time!)



 
Discover the Magic of Horses 

Welcome to Ocean View Stables Kids Camp, an unforgettable adventure that blends fun, learning, and the great outdoors into a transformative experience for your child. Our camp is designed not only to introduce your child to the majestic world of horses but also to instill valuable life lessons such as responsibility, empathy, and teamwork. Whether your child is a budding equestrian or new to the equine world, our camp offers an inclusive, nurturing environment that caters to all experience levels, for campers aged 8 to 15.

Additional Kids Camp Info 

The sign in and out sheet will be located in the stables office. Only authorized persons may pick up campers.

In the event of an emergency or change of drop off/pick up situation, please call Ocean View Stables at : 415-969-1223 AND contact our camp director via email: carolinemorganreed@gmail.com

It is the parents’ responsibility to inform the Camp by 9:00am if your child is not going to attend camp on that day by texting 415-969-1223. There are no makeups for missed days of camp. The camper can attempt to book a private lesson to catch up with the training.

Children with contagious illnesses will not be permitted in Camp. If a child becomes ill during our care a call will be placed and arrangements must be made to pick up the child.

Camp staff cannot administer any medication to your child. If your child must take medication during camp hours, it must be sent in its original bottle with doctor’s directions attached and turned into staff at the time of check in. It will be locked in our first aid box. Staff will remind campers at the following hours ONLY to take their medication: 9:30am and 12:30pm. Camper must be able to administer medication to him/herself. Please adjust medications at home to fit these hours, as we cannot deviate from them. (Asthmatic and diabetic medications provided by parents will be always kept on the staff person or the camper and used as needed.)

No refunds or exchanges of camp sessions once registration is accepted, will be permitted. Ocean View Stables reserves the right to cancel the program at any time due to lack of registration.

Appropriate behavior from children is expected at all times. If a staff member finds that a child’s behavior is uncontrollable and/or harmful to himself, others, or the equines, staff will place a call to the parent to have the child picked up. ARRANGEMENTS MUST BE MADE AT THIS TIME for immediate pick up. In this case, refunds and make-ups will not be permitted.

Campers must wear close-toed shoes at all times. Shoes with short heels ( such as cowboy/cowgirl boots) and long pants must be brought for riding periods. Campers without shoes with heels or long pants will not be permitted to ride. (Riding chaps are acceptable.) Campers must wear a hat at all times to protect them from the sun. Campers must bring a backpack to camp daily with sunscreen and water. If they do not have sunscreen or water it will be supplied at an additional fee.

Ocean View Stables carries Liability Insurance only. Proof of medical insurance must be provided by parent or guardian before the start date of camp.

The camp has a refrigerator for lunch and for medications.

While all safety precautions are taken, horseback riding is a high-risk activity. Parents will be informed of all accidents with accident forms. Please read, sign, and return these forms the following day. In the event that your child is seriously injured in camp a call will be placed to the parent and all subsequent emergency numbers. If no authorized person can be contacted, emergency medical personnel will be called in. All advice of emergency personnel will be followed including advice to transport to the nearest hospital.

Radios, Ipods, electronic games, weapons of any kind, alcohol, drugs, and other such items are not permitted on the facility. Saluti Equestrian Center is not responsible for personal items brought to camp including saddles, helmets, phones, jewelry, etc. All phones must be turned off and will be put in a locker for the day.

Personal animals are not allowed at camp with the exception of pre-approved horses. If you wish to bring your own horse to camp please contact our director via email: carolinemorganreed@gmail.com .

Pricing:

$25 Per 15 minutes after 3:15pm

  • Don't know in advance? We can do that. Just bring payment morning of service. (Cash or Check)
  • Have an after-camp emergency? We understand. Just bring payment at pick up. (Cash or Check)
  • If it is not settled before next camp day, camper will not be able to participate.
